Lambswool

Lambswool is a high-quality soft wool obtained from lambs the very first time they are sheared (at around six months old). Because this is virgin wool from young sheep, lambswool is finer that the wool of an older sheep and as a result the fibres are smoother, stronger and hold more elasticity.

Lambswool is soft and delicate to the touch but has excellent insulation properties. It is also breathable, meaning that it regulates the temperature of the wearer more effectively. Lambswool is also naturally hypoallergenic, and resistant to dust mites, making it a great choice for those with allergies or asthma.

Merino

Merino sheep were originally bred in Spain, where they were prized for their fine wool. Today, some of the finest merino fibres are found in Australia, where the breed was introduced in 1797, at the beginning of European settlement in the country. Although these sheep had already evolved a fine fibre, selective breeding by farmers soon produced the authentic Australian Merino with its even finer wool.

Merino’s exceptionally fine fibres result in the ultimate softness to touch. Their higher elasticity also helps prevent Merino garments from losing their shape. Merino wool is made out of keratin, much like human hair, so is completely biodegradable and eco-friendly. Merino wool is hypoallergenic, making it one of the best fibres to use for babies or those with sensitive skin or allergies.

Conscious Cotton

Cotton fibre is used for many textiles, it is spun into yarn, and used in fabrics such as denim jeans and 100% cotton t-shirts. Because cotton is a natural product, and because of the way it is designed and manufactured into clothing, it has many advantages, such as its ability to control moisture, insulate, provide comfort and remain durable after multiple wears.

Pringle widely use organic cotton across its collections and work with conscious suppliers as Sesia. The company has been very environmentally conscious and mindful of its impact as a zero-emissions company and is registered with the BCI (Better Cotton Initiative).

Blends

One of our most popular yarn blends is our 70:30 mix of lambswool and cashmere. This was a result of innovative exploration by Pringle’s design and knitwear teams looking into techniques to achieve new yarn textures and finishes. The 70:30 blend has a slightly felted ‘over washed’ finish for a modern look - its compact, durable structure also helps preserve the garment’s shape, especially when wearing for a long period of time such as for travel. Most of our luxurious and comfortable loungewear is produced in this blend, and we often recommend it for its soft, cosy feel.
