Wool School has been created as an initiative to encourage young designers to engage with the UK’s favourite natural fibre. Designing and producing a wool rich jumper for a retail partner which will be available for purchase in celebration of Wool week 2013, 14th- 20th October. 5% of the wool school jumper sales will go back into fashion education programmes across the UK.
Pringle of Scotland have selected Francesca Stride as the winning design as she showed a great understanding of the brand as it is today- she took inspiration from traditional argyle, but interpreted it with modernity and graphic elements to create something unique. The fit is modern and feminine and the navy with ice pink and teal colours complement our own colour palette very well. The challenge in realising our Student's design was to balance the hand made style of the design with the need for a commercial piece for production, and we experimented with machinery and techniques to interpret a hand weave structure on a conventional knitting machine. The sweater was created from Scottish spun lambswool, with 8% finest quality cotton and, as with all Pringle of Scotland lambswool, the garment was then washed in the soft waters of The Teviot, to achieve the softest possible hand feel.
